Wimbledon plans to honor Andy Murray with a statue for its 150th anniversary.

London, June 24, Wimbledon will honor Sir Andy Murray with a statue during the 2027 tournament, marking the 150th anniversary of its first championship. Murray made history as the first British Grand Slam singles champion since 1977 and the first British male Wimbledon champion since 1936. He won his first Wimbledon title in 2013, followed by a second in 2016 and also reached World No. 1 in the ATP Rankings.

Debbie Jevans, chair of the All England Club, announced plans for the statue, emphasizing that Murray will be involved in the process. The club had previously mentioned the idea of a statue in 2018, anticipating this honor upon his retirement. Murray, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, ended his competitive career after the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The club aims to ensure Murray feels embraced by Wimbledon in the future, drawing inspiration from honors given to other tennis legends. A bronze statue of Fred Perry was established at Wimbledon in 1984 to celebrate his achievements.
