Rituparna Sengupta (Ritupôrna Shengupta; born 7 November 1971) is an Indian actress and producer who is known for her work in Bengali cinema, Hindi cinema and Bangla cinema. She received a National Award, two Filmfare Awards, four BFJA Awards and four Anandalok Awards.
Rituparna Sengupta began her acting career on television. Her first acting assignment was Sada Paira (1989), a Bengali TV series. She was catapulted to stardom after she made her big screen debut with Prabhat Roy's National Award winning Bengali film Shwet Patharer Thala (1992). She made her Bollywood debut with Partho Ghosh's Teesra Kaun (1994). During her hey-day, she was often paired with Prosenjit and Chiranjeet. She was featured opposite Prosenjit for the first time in Bhijoy Bhaskar's Naag Panchami (1994) and Chiranjeet for the first time in Prashant Nanda's Lal Paan Bibi (1994). Some of her hits in Bangla cinema include Sagarika (1998), Tomar Amar Prem (1998), Ranga Bou (1999).
Rituparna was interested in the arts since a young age and learned painting, dancing, singing and handicrafts at a painting school, called Chitrangshu. She studied at Mount Carmel school, and later graduated in History from Lady Brabourne College. She began studying Modern History for an M.A. at University of Calcutta, but had to interrupt studies to concentrate on her career as an actress.
Sengupta made her acting debut on television. She was first spotted opposite Kushal Chakraborty in a Bengali Television series named Sada Payra (1989). She made her big screen debut with Prabhat Roy's National Award winning Bengali film Swet Patharer Thala (1992).
Hema Malini picked her for a negative supporting role in Zee's home-production Mohini, starring Madhu and Sudesh Berry.
In 1996, she worked in a Kannada movie called Karnataka Suputhra. In 2013, she made her Malayalam debut with Sohanlal's Kadhaveedu.
Sengupta got married to her childhood friend Sanjay Chakrabarti, founder and CEO of MobiApps on 13 December 1999 in Munshigonj and the couple has a son named Ankan and a daughter named Rishona Niya.
